Saturday morning started bright and early for several members of the Bedford Fire Department, as 60 Control had toned us out at 6:57 a.m. for a reported tree and wires down at the intersection of Homestead Lane and Old Post Road. Car 2042 and Rescue 44 arrived on location to find a large branch with wires down on Homestead Lane, and debris scattered across Old Post Road. Debris were cleared from the main roadway, and NYSEG was notified as Homestead Lane was blocked off to traffic.
At 9 a.m., residents of the Town of Bedford set off on their annual Turkey Trot race through Bedford Village, bringing Ambulance 52-B1 to stand by with a crew at the Bedford Memorial Park, "just in case".
At 9:30 a.m., Bedford was once again toned out for a large tree and transformer down across Old Post Road at Lincoln Avenue. Due to the Turkey Trot closing local roadways, access to the firehouse was extremely difficult. Nonetheless, 52-B1 was removed from standby and responded, helping to barricade the roadway and manage traffic with Car 2042, Rescue 44 and Engine 110. NYSEG crews were again called upon to remove the tree and correct the situation.
The afternoon brought a possible brush fire along Interstate 684 with conflicting reports of its actual location. Engine 109 stood by in quarters with a full crew while the matter was investigated. The brush fire was unfounded, and Bedford was returned to service.
An additional residential fire alarm was handled at 89 Stone Hill Road before midnight, coming in as the last call of the day.
