In the early morning hours of January 26th, a truck driver passing the Deer Park Tavern, located at 40 Deer Park Road in Katonah, noticed flames coming from the structure. Emergency services were immediately contacted to respond, and police officers first on scene confirmed a working fire on the property.
The first responding Katonah FD chief requested a working structure fire assignment from 60 control, and was given units from Bedford Hills, Goldens Bridge, Mount Kisco, and South Salem. Because this area of the Katonah Fire District doesn't have pressurized fire hydrants, additional tankers were requested, bringing a total of seven to the scene.
Just over an hour into the incident, the need for help with establishing a water source arose, and Bedford Engine 108 was requested to the scene. Following a quick response, Engine 108 was moved to Edgemont Road to establish a source from a dry hydrant, and laid several thousand feet of 5 inch supply line to the scene.
The fire was declared under control at 6 in the morning, and Bedford units were not released until 10 a.m. Multiple stand-by and move up assignments were filled by engines and tower ladders from Chappaqua, Pleasantville, and Thornwood fire departments.
