Bedford Fire and EMS Storm Responses (2/22 to 2/28, 3/13 to 3/14)

The Bedford Village Fire Department and EMS responded to 49 calls during the week of Monday February 22nd through Sunday February 28th. 44 of those calls were in a 72 hour period during the winter storm that hit the area, averaging a call every 1 hour and 40 minutes around the clock.
Of the 49 calls the breakdown included:
19 Fire Alarms 15 Tree and Wires Down/Burning 10 Motor Vehicle Accidents (MVAs) 2 Animal Rescues (one dog and one horse) 2 Basement Pump Outs (Residential) 1 EMS Medical Call
17 of the 49 calls turned out to be false automatic alarms (35% of all calls)
An additional storm hit our area Saturday March 13th into Sunday March 14th, whereupon our department responded to 11 calls in a 24 hour period. This included:
4 Residential Fire/CO Alarms 3 EMS Calls, 1 Mutual Aid to Stamford, CT 4 Basement Pump Outs
The Bedford Village Fire Department (which includes an ambulance and EMTs) is a small group of local residents who respond to all calls. We are a 100% volunteer organization and are in need of new firefighters and EMTs. No experience is required, all training and equipment is provided for a minimal time commitment. There are roles to fit everyone's abilities and time availability.
