Bedford Fire Dept Works a Busy Valentines Week
Email Print RSS Facebook Twitter RSS

February 16, 2020

Firefighters and EMTs from the Bedford Fire Department had a busy Valentines week this year. We started the week with two fires in one day and ended with a Mutual Aid request for our Rescue team to assist a call in Armonk.

1st incident was on February 11 at 10:11 am when we received an alarm at the Fox Lane High School. While responding, Chief Klein overheard police radio traffic reporting a fire situation. Units from Bedford arrived and found a light unit had ignited but was quickly extinguished with a dry chemical extinguisher. This alarm also brought Bedford Hills and Katonah to the scene.

2nd incident was on February 11 at 10:03 pm when we received a call for a fire in a root cellar. The structure was right next to the house, which was a concern, and filled with unknown materials which required a cautious tactical attack. Adding to that, the structure was inaccessible by truck requiring our firefighters to use portable pumps and move equipment via UTV. Despite the issues the fire was extinguished within the hour. This fire brought Bedford Hills, Katonah, Pound Ridge & South Salem fire departments.

3rd incident was a mutual aid request by Armonk Fire Dept for a motor vehicle accident on I-684 with heavy extrication. Bedford units arrived and started a difficult extrication due to the location of the car, working hand in hand with Armonk firefighters to remove both trapped occupants.

We thank everyone who responded to these incidents. We ❤️ Our Volunteers.
