| Just after 8 a.m. on Sunday, December 21, 2008, members of the Bedford Fire Department were requested to respond to a motor vehicle accident with injuries with possible entrapment in the area of Long Ridge Road and Twin Lakes Drive. Arriving Car 2041 and 2043 confirmed a single vehicle on its side in the road way, with a single occupant still in the vehicle. Due to the positioning of the vehicle, the sole occupant was unable to remove themselves from the vehicle. Crews from Rescue 44, Engine 110, and Ambulance 52-B1 worked quickly to stabilize the vehicle, and remove the front windshield to get to the trapped person. Once removed, the occupant was moved out of the car and immobilized on a long board; they were transported with minor injuries to Northern Westchester Hospital for evaluation. Rescue 44 and Engine 110 remained on scene to control traffic while Reliable Towing recovered the vehicle, and were released shortly thereafter. Only a few hours later, Bedford Fire Department members were once again alerted to respond at noon for a motor vehicle accident with injuries and possible fire on Interstate 684 northbound. Car 2042, Car 2043 Engine 110, Rescue 44, and Ambulance 52-B1 took the call, and arrived to a fully involved motor vehicle. Car 2042, 2043 and New York State Police shut down the interstate to allow for a safe work zone while BFD crews worked to extinguish the fire. Remember to take it easy on those snow covered roads! |
