| Shortly after returning from the Bedford Hills stand by, members of the Bedford Fire Department Junior Corp participated in their monthly drill at the firehouse, led by Firefighters Dave Wollin and Graham Glauber. This month's drill was the "back by popular demand" scavenger hunt, focusing on equipment location and identification on our six rigs. The goal was to acclimate the newer JC members to the different tools and equipment our department uses, and have them retrieve the items as they would in their support roles when operating on calls. The members present were divvied into two teams, each with a list of 30 different items. Items ranged from the common SCBA cylinder, to the not-so-common hazmat handbooks and Hydra-ram. Through radio contact on two separate frequencies, a member of each team goes out onto the truck floor, returns it to the next member of the team at the designated "base", and continually finds the items; first one to the bottom of the list wins. Following the completion of the lists, any items in question were gone over in detail and explained to the Junior Corps. A good job to all members who participated! |
