| Following a line of thunderstorms, members of the Bedford Fire Department were dispatched at 9:36 a.m. to 1061 Old Post Road for a reported structure fire. After notification of "multiple calls", Car 2041 upgraded the assignment to a working fire while en route. First arriving Engine 110 dropped a five inch supply line up the split driveway, and crews pulled two lines to the rear of the property.
A concrete pad with three - one hundred gallon propane tanks was found behind a garage with active fire showing. The fire ignited and leveled the 12' x 12' storage shed that sat on the pad, and two of the three tanks were leaking, fueling the fire.
Portable ponds were set up at the base of the driveway, and a tanker fill site was established on Stone Hill Road with Engine 108. Two additional tankers were added to the rotation to keep up with the water flow necessary to douse the tanks. Using two handlines and a portable monitor, firefighters worked in conjunction with Heritage Propane of Croton Falls to safely and slowly vent the tanks.
Once all gas had dissipated, units were returned to service. |
