Just after 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 10th, Ambulance 52-B1 was dispatched for a response to a reported unresponsive person in a vehicle at the Intersection of Old Post Road and Stone Hill Road, Route 121 and Route 137. While monitoring Bedford Police radio while enroute, Car 2042 updated 60-Control that the call was going to be a rollover with extrication in the area of Black Brook Road on Route 121. 60-Control quickly re-dispatched the call and updated responding units.

Once on the scene, a sedan was located with heavy damage off the roadway between a guard rail and trees. The sole occupant of the vehicle was able to self extricate, and was quickly transferred to the care of Bedford EMS and a WEMS paramedic.

Rescue 44 crew members stabilized the vehicle and canvassed the area with thermal imaging cameras to ensure no other occupants were ejected from the vehicle.

Gasoline was determined to be leaking from the vehicle due to a puncture in the fuel tank, and a safe working perimeter was established. Bedford Police assisted in closing the roadway and re-routing traffic while Engine 109 crews stretched a hand line pre-connected with foam as a precaution.

Towing crews were able to carefully remove the car from the shoulder of the roadway and onto a flatbed. Speedy dry and other oil absorption materials were utilized to contain the fuel leak, and a plug epoxy compound was applied to prevent further fuel loss. As a precaution, NYSDEP was notified for a response to the scene.

The occupant of the vehicle was transported to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla for evaluation.
