While Bedford Fire and Police attended to two patients and the accident scene, we learned that before we arrived, there had been an injured dog in the car, and thanks to some local Good Samaritans, the dog was already en route to a veterinarian.

Max Levy, a Fox Lane High School senior, had witnessed the accident and pulled over to help. Max called 911 while climbing down an embankment to the vehicle. The people in the car were already getting themselves out and the driver told Max there was a dog in the car. Max climbed into the car and found a small dog in obvious need of medical attention.

Gabby Vingo of Bedford and her cousin Marisa Belli of North Salem had also pulled over to help, so they drove Max, holding the injured dog, to the nearest vet for treatment.

Chief Shawn Carmody presented Max with a certificate recognizing his service to the community.
