BFD Handles Three Car Accidents in a Week

While clearing a residential fire alarm on Tuesday, March 16th, Bedford Fire and EMS were dispatched to a two vehicle MVA at Bedford Center Road x Cantitoe Street. On arrival two vehicles were located at the intersection with moderate front end damage and a fluid spill.

Occupants were out of both vehicles and were evaluated by the 52-B2 crew but declined transport. Vehicles were removed from the scene by flatbed, and Rescue 44/U-140 crews remained on scene to control traffic. Car 2041, Car 2042, Car 2043, Ambulance 52-B2, Rescue 44 and Utility 140 operated.

On Friday evening, March 19th, Bedford was alerted to a car into a telephone pole in front of Northwind Kennels at 402 Old Post Road. Arriving Car 2041 confirmed a single SUV had left the roadway and split a telephone pole in half, leaving cable and primary lines down on the roadway, and a streetlight snapped. Traffic was immediately stopped in both directions and re-routed at the Shell Station and Hunting Ridge Mall. The occupant of the vehicle declined transport.

NYSEG and NYSDOT was notified; the wires had to be removed before the vehicle could be towed away. The scene was turned over to Bedford PD while Old Post Road remained shut for several hours. Car 2041, Car 2042, Car 2043, Ambulance 52-B2, Rescue 44, Engine 110 and Utility 140 operated.

While investigating an outside smoke condition on Sunday March 21st, the BFD was toned out for a motor vehicle accident with injuries in the area of 37 Pound Ridge Road - as found by Car 2041 while responding to the call. Two vehicles were located disabled in the roadway. 52-B2 crews immediately began assessing the patients, and 172 was closed in both directions while the vehicles were removed and scene cleaned up. 52-B2 had the transport for evaluation to Northern Westchester Hospital. Car 2041, Car 2042, Car 2043, Ambulance 52-B2, Rescue 44, Engine 110 and Utility 140 operated.
