Just after 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 15th, 2007, members of the Bedford Fire Department responded to a dumpster fire at a house under construction in the new Stone Manor Estates development off of Twin Lakes Road.

With Engines 109 and 110 on the road, Car 2041 confirmed a working fire in a roll-off container and verified the location with 60-Control.

Arriving members on Engine 110 donned air packs and stretched a 1 ¾ inch pre-connect line to extinguish the fire. Once all visible fire was extinguished, crew used hand tools to unload some of the smoldering materials. Because of the size of the container and amount of trash inside, a John Deere backhoe at the construction site was made available by a contractor to remove the material quicker and more efficiently. Chief Matthew Halpin carefully operated the machine while members doused the remaining hot spots.

To supply Engine 110, Engine 109 laid a 5 inch line from a dry hydrant at the entrance of the development.

At the completion of overhaul at the scene, members returned to quarters in just over an hour to clean, restock, and put the engines back into service.
