Never Forget

The New Firehouse Project is the culmination of decades of discussion and planning. Please peruse the plans, renderings, and other documents posted in this drop-down menu, and visit the Bedford Fire Department's website (www.bedfordfire.com) for the New Firehouse Committee's Frequently Asked Questions section.

June 2017: At our 1st Public Information Meeting on 6/28, the Board of Fire Commissioners and members of the Bedford Fire Department's New Firehouse Committee met with neighbors of the 550 Old Post Road property to alert them to the beginning of the planning process and to ascertain their concerns regarding the building, site, and neighborhood.

July 2017 - August 2018: More than a year of interviewing and hiring professionals, brainstorming, making lists, sketches, revisions, discussions, prioritzing, arguing, studies, site walks, and group decisions.

September 2018: Site plans, floor plans, and conceptual images were unveiled at our 2nd open Public Information Meeting on 9/27.

November 2018: Our project application was submitted to the Planning Board. We held a 3rd Public Information Meeting at 34 Village Green on 11/28. The Planning Board came to see the current firehouse and for a site walk at the proposed site of the new firehouse.

December 2018: We appeared in front of the Wetlands Board on 12/10 and in front of the Planning Board on 12/17.

January 2019: The Planning Board of the Town of Bedford completed its review of our application and rescinded Lead Agency at their January 8th meeting, ceding Lead back to the Fire District. The Fire District declared Lead Agency on January 9, and re-submitted the same application that had previously been submitted to the Planning Board, to all the same involved and interested agencies, on January 10. This application is available for public inspection by contacting the District Secretary.

February 2019: The Board of Fire Commissioners, as Lead Agency, held a public Special Meeting presenting the SEQRA review process on February 26.

If you have comments or questions about the new firehouse project, please send them in writing via U.S. Mail or email to our Secretary, Angela Sour, so that we may keep a complete record and address all concerns in a thorough manner.
