The sun was out, the temperature was perfect, and without a pool house fire to attend to, the 2008 annual Memorial Day Parade kicked off from Seminary Road in Bedford.
A cheerful procession of the Boy Scouts of America and members of the armed forces led the way to the Village Green, and was followed by the men and women of the Bedford Fire Department. They were also accompanied with the swinging style of the Tappan Zee Bridgemen marching band.
Following the parade, the town's people of Bedford turned to the Village Green for remarks remembering and honoring those who have served and who continue to serve our country. Additionally, the Lions Club hosted their annual "bike decorating contest" awarding first prize to an aspiring fireman with a truly tricked out bicycle (almost capable of becoming a piece of Bedford apparatus)!
At the conclusion of the ceremony, residents were treated to complimentary refreshments at the firehouse. Members also took the call of an outside smoke investigation on Millertown Road, locating a small campfire at the rear of the property; the fire was extinguished by the homeowner and all units returned to quarters.
