At 10:19 a.m. 60-Control paged out the Bedford Fire Department for a reported car fire in the area of Pea Pond Road, Cantitoe Street, and Girdle Ridge Drive. A responding Bedford Police officer and Car 2042 and 2043 quickly found the car, fully involved, at the intersection of Girdle Ridge Road and Girdle Ridge Drive in Katonah's fire district.
With Engine 109 already en route, Katonah FD was notified of the fire, and responded with crews on Engine 115 and Tanker 6. Once on location, two lines were stretched from Engine 109 with a foam induction to suppress the flames. Katonah firefighters also arrived on scene, stretching additional lines and deploying the "Class D" extinguisher to put out the engine block flames. Their tanker was also used to wash down the remaining foam and debris from the roadway.
Once the car was towed from the scene, Girdle Ridge Road was reopened and all units were returned to service within the hour. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Photos are courtesy of JC Member Tommy Farrell.
