| The Bedford Fire Department is pleased to announce the arrival of its newest piece of apparatus, Utility 140. Over the past few years in Westchester County, many fire departments have acquired apparatus with the "utility" designation; typically these vehicles are SUVs, pick up trucks, or small work trucks that carry storm-related supplies (pumps, saws), traffic control equipment, rehab and support equipment, and are frequently used to transport personnel.
To meet the growing needs of our department and our fire district, we have acquired a new-to-us 2010 Chevrolet 2500HD crew cab pick up truck. The truck has seating for five, and has been outfitted with a full lighting and lettering package, as well as a complete radio console. The toolbox in the bed holds a submersible pump and hose, flares and tape, an EMS jump bag, as well as a chain saw and gas.
The truck is a diesel and has four-wheel drive with a towing package, which enables us to use it in all weather situations, and transport our fire safety trailer.
The truck proved it's worth ten fold during Hurricane Sandy, as it was a primary response vehicle during the storm. Without this piece of apparatus, many calls and areas of our fire district would have been inaccessible by our department. We look forward to utilizing this vehicle for many years to come. |
