In the subzero early morning hours of Friday January 24th, Bedford Fire and EMS crews were dispatched to the intersection of Virginia Avenue and Old Post Road, at the end of South Bedford Road, for a vehicle through the ice.
On arrival, an SUV was located in the pond off of Virginia Avenue, with the driver out of the vehicle and in care of Bedford PD. The car had traveled from South Bedford Road, continued through the intersection at the Shell Station, and proceeded through the woods and over an embankment into the pond. Had it not been for the recent deep freeze, the car would have made it much further into the water.
The patient was transported by Ambulance 52-B1 to Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco for evaluation. The vehicle was recovered from the pond and units cleared just after 03:00 hours.
