| On the morning of Saturday, June 23, 2007, the Bedford Fire Department unveiled its brand new fire safety trailer manufactured by Scotty Mobile Concepts. This trailer was built with a grant from the Fireman's Fund Insurance Company, an organization that has donated millions of dollars for fire safety related training and equipment to fire departments all across America.
Present at this event was the Town of Bedford Supervisor, Lee Roberts, a Terry McCormick a representative from the Firemans's Fund Insurance Company, Charles R. Johnson, Jr. Executive Vice President with DeWitt Stern Group, Inc. and 2nd Assistant Chief Dominic Bueti from the Bedford Hills Fire Department. Also on hand was Bedford Fire Chief Chief Matthew Halpin and members of the Bedford Fire Department. Numerous members of the Bedford community were also on hand to see the trailer and hear about its mission. The goal of the trailer is to enhance our fire department's fire safety and prevention program, as well as in the surrounding communities, through education. Designed specifically for children, the trailer will prove to be a valuable tool in teaching the youngest residents of Bedford about fire prevention. The trailer itself is the culmination of two years of hard work by a dedicated Fire Safety Committee at the Bedford Fire Department.
Following the unveiling of the trailer, the public was invited to walk through it and receive a live demonstration of tools and equipment courtesy of Lieutenant Paul Aquilino and Firefighter Jerome Newman. Outside the trailer, people were able to view the recently filmed documentary, "Into the Fire," which profiles the volunteer and professional firefighting. Light refreshments were also served on the apron outside our firehouse.
At the end of the event, the Fireman's Fund Insurance presented another grant to the Bedford Fire Department. The total of the two grants given to the Bedford Fire Department is $65,042. .
Special thanks to Charlie Johnson of the Dewitt-Stern Group, who helped sponsor the trailer. If you are interested in purchasing the "Into the Fire" documentary, visit the Fireman's Fund Insurance webpage at www.firemansfund.com |
