On the night of Friday August 3rd, members of the Bedford Fire Department marched through the hills of Ossining down to the shore of the Hudson River in the annual fireman's parade, commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Ossining Fire Department. Following an exhausting walk, several hot dogs and an awards ceremony, members were able to make off with the "second best regulation" and "best junior corps." trophies in hand.
In the ride back to Bedford in Engine 109, torrential rains moved in from over the Hudson, forcing a slow ride on the roads. Once in the Millwood fire district, rain turned into hail, and bursts of wind toppled trees and power lines across the road. Members on Engine 109 encountered a disabled vehicle trapped under a tree with live powerlines on Route 100, and immediately help the occupants and secure the area. In coordination with 60 control and the Millwood Fire Department, Engine 109 was requested to stay on scene due to mutliple calls within the Millwood Fire District. New Castle Police blocked and rerouted traffic while an engine from Chappaqua filled the mutual aid assignement. The scene was eventually turned over to Millwood Fire Department personnel at the arrival of Car 2251 and Engine 247.
Drenched and tired, members piled back into Engine 109 and slowly continued on their longer-than-expected "trek" back home.
