By YP Lieutenant Graham Glauber
January 28, 2008

At around 9:30 am on January 28, 2008, Mt. Kisco firefighters were dispatched on a full department response to a working structure fire on Lexington Avenue, right down the road from the Independent Fire Company. Heavy smoke and flames were reported on arrival prompted a second alarm response, summoning Bedford Hills, Katonah, and Chappaqua fire departments to the scene. F.A.S.T. response was also requested from both Yorktown and Ossining. Due to the amount of mutual aid required for the assignment, Armonk was asked to standby for Bedford Hills while Bedford was relocated with Car 2041 and Engine 110 to the Katonah Fire Department.

Units were then dispatched to a serious motor vehicle accident with fire on Interstate 684 northbound at the Guard Hill overpass, bringing Car 2041, Engine 110 and Katonah Tanker 6 to the scene. Additional resources responded from the Mt. Kisco structure fire as they became available (Katonah Car 2211, Rescue 17, Engine 117). On arrival, a single car accident was located in the center median and was extinguished using hand lines from Engine 110. To move additional equipment to the scene, Rescue 44 was requested with a full department response from the remaining Katonah (Utility 8, Mini Attack 15) units. Bedford Hills was asked to stand by in their quarters, while Armonk's Engine 286 relocated to Katonah.

Following the arrival of Battalion 16, the accident scene was turned over to Katonah Fire Department and the New York State Police. Car 2041 and Engine 110 returned to the standby assignment at Katonah Fire Department, while Rescue 44 returned to quarters. Pound Ridge Engine 113 was asked to backfill Bedford headquarters for the duration of the call.
