At approximately 09:42 a.m. on April 27th, members of the Bedford Fire Department were requested to respond to 12 Locust Drive for a possible chimney fire, as called in by the residents. On the arrival of Car 2041, it was determined that a small fire was in the chimney; Engine 109 set up a ground ladder and brought the chimney kit to the roof to inspect the problem. Additionally, a handline with the chimney snuffer was stretched to the roof, and fire in the fireplace extinguished.
As a precaution, the mutual aid response consisting of two tankers and a tower ladder were held at the scene. Following a sweep with the chains in the stack by Foreman Jerome Newman, the fire was determined to be out with negative extension to the structure. All units returned in service and to quarters in under an hour.
